New Betta =]

okay, so I have had a Betta before and well, disease got to him- did all that I could do =/. After Aiden passed, I was still obsessed about Bettas- still did research on them, joined forums, read books, looked at websites, etc. Sooo I couldnt stay away from em for long. Aiden passed on thanksgiving 08 and once i recovered from losing a battle with his disease that he had had from the pet store, I decided to do another rescue. But this time, I was gonna spoil the new Betta a whole lot lol I asked for xmas giftcards (visa or petsmart/petco) and money. I got other things from people that were for me, but the money and stuff would go towards the stuff for the new betta. Well, here it is- xmas has passed and with all the money and giftcards today, I went shopping =D I got the Eclipse Hex 5, blue and light blue gravel, plants, a heater, a thermometer,conditioner, food, and a castle for him to hide in. Pretty good setup for a Betta, huh? Sooo time for the choosing of the Betta- a hard decision. Well, okay I had my eye on this one the whole time, but i still looked at each one just to make sure. Well, as I was looking at them, this lady starts blocking my view, trying to find the "most prettiest" she said. And I quickly thought of the one that I had my eye on because he really was the best looking one there. So, I quickly spotted him (remembering where he was" before she saw him, and took him lol He made it home well and he seems to looovee his new tank and the arrangements in it. He's a red and blue male crowntail. For the whole evening, I couldnt really think of a name..but all the sudden it clicked- Calcifer. You're probably like "Uhm...Wat???" lol but let me explain- ok, so flames are a red color, and the hottest part of the flame is blue, which are the colors of my Betta. Then, for some reason (don't ask me how cause i really don't know) the japanese anime movie Howl's Moving Castle came into my head and I though of my favorite character from that movie- a little ball of fire that keep the castle moving- his name is Calcifer. And then I started to laugh because the ornament I picked out (the castle) really went alone with the name! And my Betta loves that castle- soo for anyone who has seen that movie- you would agree with me lol. Soo he's been in that tank for less than a day now cause its still nighttime and I got him in the middle of the day and he seems to be adapting really nicely- I'm so very happy ^-^ Oh funny thing too-I got alot of those Bio Gold pellet packs cause ive head so many good things about them and guess what- Calcifer eats it and then spits it out like gun fire! sooo I'm really surprised cause many people say that their bettas love that stuff lol But oh well, we'll see what happens. I got to admit- the little guy has spunk lol

Yes, I've Caught The bug...

Hi, my name is Kate =] I'm very excited in creating this blog and to see where it's going to go. My Betta obsession started when I was at Petsmart one day and I saw these interesting colored fish in small bowls and cups. Once I looked at them all, I was immediatly struck by the decision that I would love to have one and care for it. I picked out the one that caught my eye the most- a yellow and purple Delta Tail Male. I got him a bigger bowl, food, gravel, small plastic plants, and then took my new friend home. I named him Aiden because that is my favorite boy name and if I ever have a son in the future, he'll be named Aiden. Plus, the band Aiden had a album cover that was yellow and purple lol. I had Aiden for 7 months and sadly he died of a disease- the medicine worked once, but the second time he got the disease, it didnt pull through =/ My love for Bettas have grown as I've researched them and watched Aiden. I am planning to get another one in January of 2008 =) But for now and even onwards, I hope that this blog will be a help to many (feel free to ask questions!) and a fun place to share stories about ur Bettas!
